Functional Training

What Is Functional Training?

Functional training therapy is a form of exercise and a rehab technique that naturally conditions the body to perform everyday activities. Exercises completed through functional training help increase your body’s agility, strength and stability. At Aligned Orthopedic & Sports Therapy, our therapists are trained in functional movement patterns and biomechanics to help make training and rehabilitation more effective while reducing injury risks.

How Does Functional Training Therapy Work?

Functional training therapy is different for every patient — everyone has unique daily activities and struggles. Your physical therapist will create a functional training program based on your condition, injury, overall health and necessary daily activities. Accounting for your current abilities and situation ensures your therapist can assign the most beneficial exercises.

Your therapist will have you complete functional training exercises similar to the motions and movements you would make while performing your everyday tasks. Some exercises may involve using your bodyweight or free weights to work your muscles and prepare for daily activities.
